Strengthening Communities Through Access to Safe Drinking Water
The Beverage Sector of the Group contributes to improving access to safe and reliable drinking water in local communities through the establishment of community-owned Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Navy and the Ministry of Health. These facilities provide approximately 3,600 beneficiaries with access to clean drinking water, helping address local water-quality challenges and contributing to improved community health and well-being. By working with government institutions and promoting community ownership, the initiative also supports the long-term sustainability and continued accessibility of safe drinking water within the beneficiary communities.
Turning Waste into Opportunity: Creating Value Through Circularity
The Melting Point initiative transforms discarded aluminium waste into value-added products, including trophies, jewellery, and lifestyle items, giving waste materials a meaningful second life. Beyond reducing waste and promoting circular economy principles, the initiative creates sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities by enabling them to participate in the creation of marketable products. Through this approach, environmental responsibility is combined with community empowerment, turning waste into both economic and social value.
Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Livelihood Development
The Group’s Investment and Property sectors jointly contribute to community development initiatives focused on creating sustainable socio-economic value and strengthening long-term community resilience. During the financial year, the sectors supported a livelihood development programme in Vakarai, Batticaloa, aimed at improving income-generating opportunities and enhancing the overall well-being of local communities. The programme focuses on strengthening agriculture-based livelihoods, improving agricultural productivity, and enhancing access to essential services, including clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and education. By combining livelihood development with basic infrastructure improvements and targeted social support, the initiative seeks to address immediate community needs while building the foundation for long-term economic empowerment, self-reliance, and improved quality of life.
